What steps should be taken to start a radio station on a college campus?
I currently attend Illinois College of Liberal Arts in Jacksonville Illinois. I am apart of the IC Radio Club where we are looking to begin a radio station. As of now, funds is not the biggest of our issues because we need resources and options and information on where to look. We were thinking about something to UIC Radio, having a live stream. Can someone give me a few business, equipment companies, and other information on starting this project and getting it off the ground in less than 6 months?

- Using linux and shoutcast this can be had in less than 6 days and the software costs nothing. Royalties on the other hand you would have to do some research on for sure. There's been some wild royalty demands from labels to internet streams this last couple of years. It really threatened a lot of the small streaming sites because only the giants in the net stream industry would have been able to afford the costs per song per listener. I digress... Technically speaking all it would take is a net connected (with decent bandwidth) Linux server running the Shoutcast DNAS application and of course liberal bandwidth with some decent size hard drives. Once the server is stood up, among some other things, you can actually have DJ's control it from any location, say at their house, that's pretty slick. Being that you are at a school I bet you could find someone proficient in linux to assist if/when needed? HTH - Good Luck, -Aaron
